What are our services like?

Everyone is welcome at UUG! Our services are on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am. in our little red church at 136 S. Stratton Street. They last approximately one hour, and child care is available for children ages 2 months through 5 years. We hope that you also will stay after the service for our coffee hour or monthly potluck (second Sunday of each month).

Upcoming services appear on the UUG Home Page, our Calendar and our monthly Newsletter, as well as in the weekly Order of Service.

Services are led by our consulting minister, Rev. Kate Seitz Bortner, as well as by guest speakers, visiting ministers and our own members. We strive for meaningful and creative worship, and you will discover that our services are as diverse as our congregation. We encourage all UUG members and friends to take part in planning and participating in our worship services.

The usual elements of a UUG service include:

  • Announcements and Welcome
  • A Musical Prelude
  • An Opening Hymn
  • Lighting of our Chalice
  • A Story for All Ages
  • Lighting of Candles to Share Joys and Sorrows
  • A Sermon or Talk
  • A Silent Meditation
  • An Offertory
  • A Closing Hymn
  • Extinguishing of our Chalice
  • Parting Words
  • A Musical Postlude

What to Wear to a Service?

At UUG, we are interested in You, not your clothes. Some of us choose to dress for Sunday mornings. Others come in jeans. Just be yourself!

Vespers at UUG

Rev. Kate recently has been offering a Vespers service — one Sunday a month at 3:00 PM, followed by Kate's delicious homemade soup and a lively discussion. Vespers have had a very good response, so please check back for updates about UUG's newest worship opportunity.
